Middle West Spirits Napoleon Calvados Cask-Finished Whiskey
Middle West Napoleon Calvados Cask-Finished Whiskey was aged five years. The first four years were in American white oak barrels that imparted hints of vanilla, leather and spice. It was then harvested and entered sunsoaked Calvados casks for another one to two years where it acquired soft notes of apple, pear and baking spices.
This one time only whiskey was actually the result of a mistake by the cooperage. It seems that Middle West ordered barrels for a Cognac Finished whiskey program but were sent Calvados Casks by mistake. The cask mix-up was not discovered until after all the casks had been filled. Rather than start over, the whiskey was allowed to age in the Calvados Casks and the result was a unique and complex Double Cask Finished whiskey.
Due to this being a mistake in production, it is a true rare selection and will not be available again. Some of the best products in the world have been the result of “Happy Accidents.”
