Joseph Magnus 10yr Cask Strength Rye
For the first time in more than 100 years, rye is returning to the Jos. A. Magnus portfolio of spirits. This new release is a rich, complex rye aged more than a decade.
Rye whiskey was extremely popular in the 1800s, especially when Joseph Magnus started his successful spirits business. It was last produced by Magnus in 1918, when he paused production on his spirits ahead of Prohibition.
Built on a legacy of bold, spice-forward bourbons, this new rye carries that same dedication to character and craftsmanship into a spirit that feels both familiar and fresh.
Mashbill: 95% Rye Whiskey, 5% Malted Barley
NOSE
The first impression is luxuriously decadent: notes of crème brûlée give way to the presence of English toffee and maple-glazed éclair. Cherry cola fizzes beneath the surface, enhanced by fragrant orange peel that brightens the darker, richer layers of bitter chocolate and candied almonds. As the whiskey opens, whispers of clove and freshly crushed peppercorn emerge, weaving an elegant thread of spice through its confectionary sweetness.
PALATE
Velvety and commanding, the arrival unfolds like a finely crafted dessert served beside a glowing hearth. Caramelized sugar melts into dark chocolate and buttery toffee before cherry cola and candied citrus awaken the senses with vibrant energy. Roasted almonds and maple pastry richness linger in the background. The rye’s signature spice arrives with quiet confidence; notes of clove, cracked pepper and seasoned oak adding structure without overshadowing the whiskey’s remarkable sweetness.
FINISH
The finale is long, graceful, and contemplative. Echoes of cocoa, toffee and caramelized sugar slowly dissolve into lingering orange zest and maple glaze, while matured oak and pleasant rye spice leave a warm, gently drying embrace. Fleeting hints of peppercorn and clove persist like the final notes of a well-played symphony.
