Twenty-one years is a long stretch for a Speyside single malt, and this bottling from The Glenlivet Distillery wears that age gracefully. Matured in a diverse range of casks and bottled at 43% ABV, it pours a deep amber-gold and opens with honey, toffee, raisin and fig over cinnamon and nutmeg. The palate turns darker and richer, with treacle-like molasses meeting mango and pineapple, then oak, leather and a faint wisp of smoke before a long, velvety, gently spicy finish.

It suits the drinker who already loves Speyside sweetness and wants to see where extended maturation takes it, and it is a thoughtful step up for anyone moving from younger malts toward older ones. This is a sipping whisky, not a mixer.
