Dansk Mjod Klapojster Mjod
The world's oldest fermented beverage made from honey has been a popular drink from Europe to Australia dating back to long before Viking Times. One of the earliest references to fermented honey can be found in the Hindu's of India's holy books, the Veda books, which date back 4000 years and possibly even earlier than that.
The oldest known recipe for mead to be written down in the Nordic countries was in 1520 by the Archbishop Olaus Magnus. The recipe comprised of water, honey, hops and brewers yeast, and concludes that "on the eighth day it may be drunk, but the longer it is left, the purer and better it will be."
Dansk Mjod products are brewed based on a recipe from about year 1700, and the ingredients are pure and 100% natural - guaranteed free from additives of any kind. Honey is the major and most important item in the recipe.
Klapøjster Mjød is just like the company's other mead based on honey and water, but with inspiration from a Danish tradition, they have mixed this mead with snaps.
This makes Klapøjster Mjød stronger than the traditional mead and you get an aftertaste of snaps, but it still retains mead sweetness and rich characteristics.
Serve chilled as a bitter or at room temperature in a wine glass.
