Chateau Filhot 2016 375ml
The vineyards of Chateau Filhot were originally planted between 1630 and 1650. The actual Chateau was built is 1709 by Romain de Filhot who's family already owned a noble house in the Sauternes area. The great Sauternes family Lur-Saluces managed the property for a stretch of time, with Romain-Betrand Lur Saluces rebuilding the Chateau and surrounding gardens in 1840. After the 1855 Classification and until 1901, their wine was referred to as "Chateau Sauternes". In 1935, the Countess Durieu de Lacarelle purchased the vineyard from her brother and it remains in the family.
The vineyards are planted 60% Semillon, 36% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscadelle. Although the estate is composed of 350 hectares of land, only 62 are planted with grapes. The rest of the land is used for gardens and woodlands as designed by Louis-Bernard Fischer in 1840.
