Built on the foundations of a 17th century manor house, the Chateau de France boasts all 3 conditions needed for a "Grand Vin": soil, sub-soil & slopes. It's 40 hectares of vineyards, 36 of which are planted with red grapes, cover the highest plateau of Léognan. Bernard Thomassin planted 4 hectares of white grapes in 1985, restoring tradition of producing both red & white wines.

Yummy, showing steeped red and black currant fruit bearing a silky edge and tarry middle, with black licorice and apple wood notes adding range through the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Best from 2023 through 2031. 5,800 cases made, 500 cases imported.

Lovely saline-edged blue fruits on the nose. Smooth tannins make the first impression, filling the mouth with texture and grip followed by waves of blueberries, black cherries and crushed stones. Lovely sculpting on show, feels well controlled with energy, concentration and great freshness. Very nice.

White fruits and citrus give this wine a fruity character that is balanced by the texture and tight acidity. Toastiness and spice will develop with time. Drink the wine from 2023. Cellar Selection.

Plenty of wet earth, stone, blackberry, currant and walnut undertones. It’s medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and velvety, chewy tannins. Polished and poised. Give this at least four or five years to soften. Try after 2025.
