Leviathan Red Blend 2021

The 2021 Leviathan reveals distinct aromas of blackberry bramble, black cherry, and chaparral. Savory spices and star anise meld with mineral, graphite, bay, and laurel reflective of our rocky Northern California terrain. With finely structured tannins, this wine is silky and elegant-yet persistent. It is approachable now and built to cellar for 10-plus years.

Grape Composition: 63% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 10% Petite Sirah, 6% Syrah, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Cabernet Franc

A partnership between winemaker Andy Erickson and Huneeus Vintners, the 2020 Leviathan blends 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 13% Petite Sirah, 7% Syrah, 5% Petite Verdot and 4% Cabernet Franc. Sourced from such diverse regions as Red Hills (Lake County), Coombsville (Napa) and Moon Mountain (Sonoma), it's a bit less dramatic and flamboyant than the 2019 but is still a ripe, plush wine for early drinking. Medium to full-bodied, it boasts mixed berry fruit, vanilla and cedar shadings and a long, corpulent finish. Best After 2023.

The 2020 is not as opulent as most vintages, but that's not a bad thing at all. If anything, the lighter style is quite appealing. Moreover, the tannins are very nicely balanced. Andy Erickson did a fabulous job with this Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend.

Lots of black olive, tar and asphalt with black fruit. Medium to full body with firm and linear tannins that run the length of the wine. This is a multi-region blend with a large percent from Sonoma.
