Matthiasson Village Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Matthiasson Village Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

___

The Village collection from Matthiasson is a blend of lots that were left out of the more serious cuvées and fruit from some of the younger vines, but all are from organically farmed Napa Valley vineyards.

The nose shows abundant red fruits, lots of bright cherry along with bramble-berries, such as blackberry, cranberry, mulberry, and framed with hints of mineral/herbal characters such as graphite, cedar, and pencil shavings. The palate is vibrant and fresh, with medium tannin and beautiful acidity. This wine will age beautifully, but is ready to drink right away—it will always appreciate a little time in a decantor, carafe, or water pitcher—whatever gets the job done for this Village Cab.

Decanter: 93
Aromas here of guava, mango and citrus rind. The palate is soft and easy but with good posture leading into a finish that is linear and focussed with touches of creamy toast. Tyler’s entry-level Santa Barbara County Chardonnay features top sites in Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills and does so at an impressively competitive price-point. The 2018 vintage saw 15% new oak for 11 months with no battonage.
