Pavillon de Chavannes Cote de Brouilly Cuvee des Ambassades 2018
This is a very old school Beaujolais in the best sense: beautiful garnet color, beguiling aromatics, and a burst of refreshment in the mouth—and that burst is a savory, mineral, toothsome thing because of the domain’s high elevations and because of Mont Brouilly’s blue granite. Some crus emphasize soil notes, others give fruit, but only good Côte de Brouilly gives stone in the flavor.

|The 2018 Côte de Brouilly Cuvée des Ambassades is showing nicely, bursting from the glass with aromas of ripe cherries, plums, violets and dark chocolate. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, its generous core of ripe but succulent fruit framed by powdery, youthfully chewy tannins. Displaying beautiful purity of fruit, the 2018 is a touch more tannic and structured than the irresistibly satiny 2017 rendition, but it is a very fine effort for this high-quality and decidedly under-the-radar Beaujolais domaine.|
