SUNU Saffron Fields Pinot Noir 2018
A pretty Pinot which has been aged in 50% new French oak for 16 months. About ⅓ of the clusters are whole during fermentation giving the wine some backbone and depth. After 30 minutes in the glass, the wine opens up to a bouquet of ripe red fruits, orange peel, nutmeg and graphite, with fresh strawberry dominating. The palate is an interesting mix of macerated bing cherry, cloves and black tea. This wine has medium-plus acidity and an elegant, lingering richness on the finish. Only 90 cases produced.

Cherry and sliced green-strawberry aromas with some watermelon. Medium body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Dark-hibiscus and candied-citrus aftertaste. Drink after 2024.

Smoky mulberries and darker cherry fruits as well as earthy spice, toast, and violet notes emerge from the 2018 Pinot Noir Saffron Fields Vineyard. It's one of the bigger wines in the lineup, offering medium to full body, a layered, seamless texture, and ripe, impressive tannins. Easily my favorite in the lineup, this gorgeous Pinot Noir stays classically styled and elegant while still having fruit, texture, and length.
