The Castle de Pressac was established nearly 1000 years ago. The original purchase was a fortress including a moat and drawbridge. The Castle was at the epicenter of the end of the Hundred Years War. After the battle of Castillon, the official treaties were signed at the Castle. After years of neglect, most of the Castle has been destroyed. The Winemaking history at the Castle begins in 1737. The owners plant a local grape called Auxerrois. The grape name is changes to Noir de Pressac. Today we know the grape as Malbec. The current history of the Chateau begins in 1997 when Jean Francois Quenin purchases the Chateau.

The 42 hectare St. Emilion vineyard of Chateau de Pressac is planted to 69% Merlot, 18% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2.5% Malbec and 1.5% Carmenere and 1% Malbec. The vineyard is all in 1 large block.

Direct, with a pure and focused beam of cassis and bitter cherry fruit backed by lightly singed vanilla and sandalwood notes on the finish.

A vibrant purple colour with finessed oak on the nose and exotic black pepper and cinnamon spicing at the end of the palate. This is a wine with great impact even though the tannins are elegant and well drawn out. This year it is going up to 18 months ageing from 12 months, a reflection of the quality of the vintage. 66% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, with the remainder made up of Malbec and Carmenre.

The 2016 de Pressac is a big, enticing wine. Ample and dramatic in feel, the 2016 possesses notable richness and sumptuousness in all of its dimensions. An exotic mlange of black berry jam, chocolate, menthol, licorice and dark spices build into the fleshy, voluptuous finish. All the elements are wonderfully fused together. Distinctive and bold, the 2016 has a lot to recommend. Tasted three times.

This is really fantastic in 2016 with beautiful balance and depth of fruit. Focused and tight palate. Full-bodied and super long. Wonderful.
