Chateau Laffitte Carcasset 2016

Back in 1759, In the heart of the St. Estephe appellation, there was a lieu-dit called "Le Carcasset". In 1781, Jean Laffitte, prosecutor and lawyer for King Louis XVI, owns the estate and constructs the stone Chartreuese. After a few variations on the name, in 1898, Jean Grillet renames the estate Laffitte-Carcasset. After a few different owners in the 20th century, the Padirac family sold the Chateau to Pierre Rousseau who is the current owner.

The average age of the vineyard is 30 years old, composed of 60 % of Cabernet Sauvignon, 35 % of Merlot and 5 % of Cabernet Franc. There are 35 hectares of vineyards.

The 2016 Chateau Laffitte Carcasset offers attractive cedar infused black fruit on the nose, hints of red plum following just behind, quite detailed with abundant fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin that exert a gentle grip, a masculine Saint Estephe that is harmonious and focused, the finish testifying that just the right amount of oak was employed. Situated on the gravel plateau of Saint-Estèphe, this estate has produced a richly structured wine with fine tannins and dense black fruits. The 70% Cabernet Sauvignon offers black-currant flavors and acidity plus plenty of firm tannins for aging. Drink the wine from 2024.
