Glengoyne Distillery officially began production in 1833, when the Walsh Act reduced the license fees and allowed illicit stills to become legal. There are three unique characteristics about the distillery. Glengoyne, along with The Macallan and Bruichladdich, are the only three distilleries remaining today that uses Golden Promise barley, which is low in yield but high in quality. Glengoyne does not use peat smoke to dry their barley, but instead uses warm air. Finally, although Glengoyne is a Highland Single Malt, all of the whisky is actually aged in the Lowlands. The distillery is on the Highland/Lowland border and the aging warehouses are across the street in the lowlands.

The “First Editions” range of single barrel expressions is always released at natural cask strength, and of course without coloring or chill filtration. As the name may suggest, each cask is carefully selected to evoke the qualities of rare literary volume - those of character and collectability. Color-coding on the labels denotes the particular regions the whiskies themselves are from and each bottle is individually numbered and presented in a gift tube. A “First Editions” bottling without doubt makes a valuable addition to anyone’s whisky library.

Tasting Notes:
Notes of apricot, honey and vanilla. Creamy custard and dried peels on the palate with notes of allspice, manuka honey and hints of butterscotch, giving a creamy caramel and malty finish.
