The 2016 Bouscaut is deep garnet-purple in color and offers up exuberant black cherries, blackberries and cassis scents with hints of pencil lead, smoked meats and underbrush. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and fresh with lovely vibrancy and a quiet intensity to the finish.

Lovely rich, dark purple in colour, this is often a wine that luxuriates in its oak - and you see that again here. It feels very much like a signature Bouscaut, with rich, exotic spice notes, a silky texture and opulent feel, without going over the top. The heat comes through a little but it has a slick approach that works.Rich and modern, but true to itself. 40% new oak. 5% Cabernet Franc makes up the blend. Drinking Window 2025 - 2038.
Wine Enthusiast: 94
This Lurton family-owned property has upped its game in recent vintages and this wine shows the same progress. Rich tannins and dense black fruits deliver weight and concentration. The alcohol is balanced by the fresh black-currant-flavored aftertaste to give lushness without heaviness. Drink from 2025.
Vinous: 91
The 2016 Bouscaut has an appealing, understated bouquet of blackberry, cedar and humidor aromas, light touches of melted tar emerging with time. The medium-bodied palate is quite rounded in texture, offering sappy black fruit and a hint of clove and fennel toward the persistent finish, which fans out with confidence. Superb.
James Suckling: 91
The plum and currant aromas with crushed cement are persuasive. Medium body, attractive fruit, slightly fluid center palate and a medium finish. Needs one or two years to come together. Try after 2020.
