Chateau de Myrat Sauternes 2016 375ml
The wine history of the current owners of Chateau de Myrat is longer than the history of the property. Currently the property is owned by the Pontac family whos roots go back to Jean de Pontac who found Chateau Haut Brion in 1533. Chateau de Myrat story began in the 1700 when the Demirat family purchased the property. The began building the Chateau in 1730. The Demirat sold the estate in 1937 to Max de Pontac. In 1976, Max de Pontac decide to replant his entire vineyard. This process lasted until 1988, the year Max died. His brothers and their children currently run the estate.
The estate is 30 hectares but it only has 22 hectare under wines. It is planted 88% Semillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc and 4% Muscadelle. The remaining 8 hectares is landscaped parkland. The average age of the vines is quite young. In 1976, Max de Pontac decided to replant his entire vineyard. This process lasted until 1988. 1995 turned out to be his first high quality vintage since replanting.

The 2016 Myrat has a very perfumed bouquet with touches of petrol at first, although that recedes and leaves some lovely citrus/honeyed fruit. The palate is well balanced with a crisp line of acidity. There is plenty of vibrant, energetic fruit here and great precision on the finish. Dry Myrat has been on a roll recently and this continues their purple patch of excellent Sauternes.

I like the pointed citrus on the nose, which is followed by a lovely rich texture and fairly striking citrus flavours. This errs on the luxurious side, and it has great persistency and wonderful depth, but could do with pepping up just a little bit.

The 2016 de Myrat is lush, tropical and inviting. Unctuous and generous on the palate, the 2011 possesses striking depth from start to finish. Pineapple, passion fruit, lemon comfit and sweet floral notes add to the wine's exotic personality and feel. The de Myrat is one of the richer Sauternes of the year.

This shows serious intensity and richness with a medium to full body, lots of sweetness and a rich finish. Oily. Better than the 2015.
