The Valduero winery was established in 1984 by Gregorio García Álvarez. Their first few vintages were produced in rented winery space. About five years later, they purchased an old winery and demolished it to build a state-of-the-art winery. This included about 1000 m2 of caves, which, at some locations, are as deep as 30 meters below the surface and located under the winery for barrel aging.
Una Cepa is produced from vineyards with a very small production. So small that each vine will only produce one bottle of wine. The land is made of clay and limestone and the vineyards are over 50 years old. After 18 months of aging in oak barrels of two different origins, the wine is then aged an additional 12 months in the bottle.
"Valduero’s impressive red comes from vines planted in the mid-1980s in Gumiel de Mercado. The French and American oak flavors are quite assertive here, but the underlying blackberry fruit is plush and refined. Drink 2019-2026." -93pts, Tim Atkin
Dark cherry red. A great complexity and extraordinary intensity of aromas. Aromas of fruit and oak combine, showing notes of mature, red fruit, leather and vanilla. Very well structured and balanced, the integration of alcohol and acidity is excellent and the retronasal finish is very different to the classic Valduero style. This is due to the grapes.
Grape Variety: 100% Tinto Fino
