Matthiasson Village Chardonnay 2019
The Village collection from Matthiasson is a blend of lots that were left out of the more serious cuvées and fruit from some of the younger vines, but all are from organically farmed Napa Valley vineyards.
Golden Delicious apples, Meyer lemon, and yellow peaches on the nose and through to the palate. The medium acidity is balanced by pleasant fleshiness, finishing very clean with a hint of minerality. Refreshing and with moderate alcohol, this wine is all about pleasure, begging to be drunk up, with some oysters or a roast chicken and a big smile.

Aromas here of guava, mango and citrus rind. The palate is soft and easy but with good posture leading into a finish that is linear and focussed with touches of creamy toast. Tyler’s entry-level Santa Barbara County Chardonnay features top sites in Santa Maria Valley and Sta. Rita Hills and does so at an impressively competitive price-point. The 2018 vintage saw 15% new oak for 11 months with no battonage. |
