Chateau Tour de Pez 2016
In 1931 Chateau Tour de Pez was founded. Actually a winery and vineyards were already in place and the name was changed to Chateau Tour de Pez. The name refers to the tower which was built in the 13th Century. In 1898 the Bouchera family purchased the estate and heavily invested in the property. The quality of the wine at the Chateau has improved significantly and it has been included in the Bourgeois Cru Rankings since 2008.
The property is planted in 55% of Merlot, 35% of Cabernet Sauvignon, in 7% of Cabernet Franc and in 3% of Petit Verdot. It totals 30 hectares. Depending on vintage, production is between 60,000 and 80,000 bottles.

The 2016 Tour de Pez comes sprinting out of the blocks on the nose with precocious black cherries and blueberry fruit, violets and iris following just behind. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannin, quite tensile in the mouth with good acidity, flecks of brown spice and meat juices imparting a savory vein on the finish. There is plenty of character to this Saint Estèphe and it should age with style. |
